Wellcome, the city’s largest homegrown supermarket chain, has grown alongside generations of Hong Kong families since 1945. Its Prosperous Garden branch, opposite the Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station – a Grade II historic building on bustling Canton Road – has been refreshed as a nostalgia concept store celebrating Hong Kong’s cultural heritage and shared memories. The transformation pays tribute to Hong Kong’s rich cultural heritage, shared memories and Wellcome’s own longstanding roots in the community.

Created for locals and tourists alike, the store invites the community to step back into the charm of the 1950s through the 1970s. More than just a place to shop, it offers a truly unique experience, combining a retro-themed atmosphere and photo spots with curated local selections and souvenirs that are rarely found elsewhere. The concept allows people to reconnect with Hong Kong’s past, while also reflecting Wellcome’s heritage as a trusted neighbourhood supermarket that has long been part of everyday life.

The experience begins at the storefront, which glows with LED signage inspired by the iconic neon lights of old Hong Kong, set against walls of nostalgic mirrored tiles. Past the classic silver‑and‑green turnstile, shoppers step into a ‘time tunnel’ filled with retro details – red plastic lamps, a retro TV selfie spot, an old-style telephone display, vintage grocery scenes and traditional street signs - reconnecting the community and visitors with memories of Hong Kong’s past.

Inside the store, a dedicated souvenir zone brings together iconic gifts and classic treats that celebrate Hong Kong’s heritage.

Wellcome’s first Hong Kong nostalgia concept store is located at G/F, Unit 1–11, Block 5, Prosperous Garden, 3 Public Square Street, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon, Hong Kong (Yau Ma Tei MTR Exit C).
