Importance of Logistics-Related Emissions in Retail

Transportation and distribution contribute significantly to value-chain emissions in the retail sector because of frequent restocking and last-mile delivery. Reducing logistics emissions is key to lowering climate impact while ensuring efficient delivery and reliable product supply for customers.

Transition Towards Electric Vehicles

Transitioning towards lower emission logistics solutions supports DFI’s broader climate strategy by addressing emissions across the value chain. DFI continues to deploy electric vehicles across markets to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency. For electric trucks, in addition to eliminating diesel use and contributing to lower GHG emissions, it also reduces noise pollution and maintenance requirements due to its simpler mechanical design.

Successful Adoption in Hong Kong and Taiwan

In Hong Kong, Wellcome has begun operating a 24 tonne electric truck since February 2024 as part of its transition towards cleaner distribution, becoming the first retailer in the city to introduce a vehicle of this scale into daily distribution operations. In Taiwan, IKEA has operated a 26 tonne electric truck since 2023.

Looking ahead, DFI will continue to explore opportunities to expand lower emissions vehicle adoption, building on operational learnings across the Group’s supply chain.
