Plastic Waste in Supply Chains

Secondary packaging materials such as plastic wrap contribute significantly to operational waste in logistics and distribution. Reducing reliance on single use plastics is essential to improving waste diversion and advancing circular practices across supply chains.

Driving Practical Circularity in Operations

DFI’s facilities support its waste and circularity objectives by exploring solutions to replace disposable materials with reusable solutions that deliver both environmental and operational benefits across distribution centres.

Implementation of Textile Doors Upon Successful Trials

DFI introduced reusable textile doors and straps for roll cages at its Hong Kong Distribution Centres, replacing traditional plastic wrap. Following trials conducted over multiple years, the solution was fully adopted to secure goods during transport, prevent product loss and streamline handling.

Reduced Plastic Use and Improved Waste Diversion

Launched in 2025 at the Wellcome Fresh Food Centre and 7 Eleven facilities, the initiative reduced plastic usage at the Wellcome Fresh Food Centre by approximately 55%, equivalent to around 31 tonnes of plastic per year. Across all Hong Kong distribution centres, waste diversion improved from 88% in 2024 to 92% in 2025, demonstrating measurable progress in reducing plastic waste while enhancing operational efficiency.
